Jurassic Park was originally a book written by Michael Chrichton. Before the book was released in 1990, there was a bidding war over movie rights. Steven Spielberg won the battle and paid $1.5 million to create the movie. The result was something that would go on to create a legacy franchise. 

Jurassic Park was the movie event of 1993, bringing in over $1 billion from a $63 million budget. However, some of the box office performance was from a 2013 3D re-release, and the initial release saw a $914 million return. The success of Jurassic Park led to a sequel book and multiple sequels that are still being released today. 

The impact of Jurassic Park was not only shown by its success at the box office. The step forward in effects was extremely impressive, with the combination of computer graphics and practical stunts creating an epic experience. Unlike the Canadians in the NHL, Jurassic Park was able to sustain its initial success and become a global powerhouse.

Michael Jackson was Performing at the Super Bowl

The 1993 Super Bowl show was one of the most spectacular events of the year. Coming off the release of his Dangerous album in 1991, Jackson was one of the most famous artists in the world. It was the biggest-selling album in the world in 1992, so it was an incredible coup for the Super Bowl to get Jackson to perform. 

The performance was motivated to help the Super Bowl’s viewing figures. Other channels had been running special shows to try to combat the broadcast success of the game, and the NFL wanted to ensure that the Super Bowl had no competitors. While they expected Jackson’s performance to help, it’s unlikely that they realized how successful it would be. 

The Super Bowl ended up being the most viewed TV event in the USA of all time, far surpassing any Canadians watching the last team to win the Stanley Cup. It was so successful that it boosted sales of Dangerous, making it an even bigger album for Jackson.

Bill Clinton is Sworn into Office

The election of Bill Clinton was historic for multiple reasons. First, it marked the return of the Democrats to power after three terms of Republicans. Many felt that Clinton would return the US to peaceful times after the Gulf War. His first term was so successful that he was voted in for a second term. 

Clinton's second term wasn’t as successful, as he became the only US president to be impeached. His behavior with Monica Lewinsky and the subsequent attempt to cover it up meant his legacy was marred. 

It also led to a return to Republicans and allowed the Bush family to return, although this time, it was the son of the original. 

Man United Win The Inaugural Premier League

Although no one knew then, this was the beginning of a dynasty for Manchester United. After losing to Leeds in the previous season, in the last year of Division One, Manchester United signed Eric Cantona and romped home to win the first Premier League. This sustained period of dominance eventually allowed United to surpass Liverpool as the most successful team in England. 

It’s a different story in the modern era; few people would pick United to win the league after claiming sweepstakes casinos no-deposit bonuses. However, at the time, this allowed Man United to become the richest soccer team in the world, briefly surpassing Real Madrid.

Although it was the last year for Canadians to win the hockey finals, it was also a historic first for the country. Kim Campbell was voted in to become Canada's first female Prime Minister. It was a significant event then and has become even more groundbreaking since. Campbell is still the only female Prime Minister in Canada’s history, showing that there’s still a long way to go. 

Her reign is incredible because she took the position after the previous incumbent's resignation. As her party was losing ground with voters, she was voted out 132 days later in the October federal election. It’s another scenario similar to the struggles of Canadian NHL teams.
