Three NFL Franchises Primed to Transform Their Fortunes in 2025

Three NFL Franchises Primed to Transform Their Fortunes in 2025

With the 2025 NFL draft now in the books, all roads lead toward September and the beginning of the new season. The Philadelphia Eagles head into the upcoming campaign as the reigning champions after their mauling of the history-seeking Kansas City Chiefs, and they will kick off the new term when they host the season's first game on September 4th.

And following their exploits in New Orleans at Super Bowl LIX, online sports betting sites make the champs the team to beat. The latest of Bovada's sports betting odds currently price the Birds as the +600 favorites to successfully claim a second straight Lombardi and the third in franchise history. Patrick Mahomes and his vanquished Chiefs come in as the +700 second-favorites, and their quest for redemption will be one of the biggest talking points of the year.

But outside of the top contenders, a whole slew of teams are looking to simply gain a stranglehold in the league following years of disarray. Here are three whose fortunes could be drastically changed between now and Super Bowl LX in February.

Titans

For the Tennessee Titans, 2025 is shaping up to be the start of something big, but let's face it: it couldn't get any worse. The addition of Will Levis two years ago promised to usher in a new era, but that experiment ultimately failed. Last term, the Nashville side went 3-14, ending the campaign with the worst record of anybody, and it became abundantly clear that a radical overhaul was due.

Well, that has begun, and it has started with the selection of quarterback Cam Ward via the first overall pick of this year's draft. The Titans have been desperate to breathe life into an offense that has grown stale for some time now, and their future hinges on the dynamic QB out of Washington State.

Ward is not your average rookie prospect. He’s a dual-threat phenom, known for his ability to extend plays and carve up defenses, both with his cannon of an arm and his agility in the pocket. Think Lamar Jackson but with a chip on his shoulder. Paired with a Tony Pollard coming off his third straight 1,000-yard rushing season and a well-balanced receiving corps led by Calvin Ridley, Ward has the tools to lead a seismic shift in Tennessee’s offensive identity.

Browns

The Cleveland Browns have long been the punchline of many an NFL-themed joke, but that could finally be set to change in 2025. Two years ago, the franchise came to life with the veteran Joe Flacco under center. The former Super Bowl winner rolled back the years to lead the Ohio outfit to the playoffs for just the second time in the last two decades. The old-school gunslinger has returned this offseason to somewhat resolve their QB dilemma, but it isn't his addition that has Browns supporters excited.

It all started with securing defensive powerhouse Myles Garrett on a contract extension, ensuring their defensive anchor remains a Brown for years to come. The generational talent has been a relentless force off the edge for some time now, racking up sacks like it’s second nature. He set alarm bells ringing a few months ago when he said he wanted to leave, but a change of heart and a mind-boggling extension have not only solidified the defense but also sent a clear message to the league that Cleveland is serious about being competitive once again.

But the real shocker? The Browns took full advantage of Shedeur Sanders' shocking drop into the fifth round of the draft to add perhaps a new franchise quarterback, providing he can prove the doubters wrong. Despite the 23-year-old's standout career at Colorado under the watchful eye of his father, Deion Sanders, teams inexplicably allowed him to slide deep into Day 3. The Browns pounced, and it might just be a stroke of genius.

Shedeur's accuracy, poise, and football IQ make him an intriguing long-term option under center. Pairing him with weapons like Amari Cooper and emerging star Elijah Moore gives the Browns the potential to field an offense as potent as their defense. If Sanders lives up to the hype, Cleveland might finally exorcise the ghosts of their quarterback carousel.

Giants

The Giants are no strangers to frustration, but this offseason feels different. Smart moves in the draft and a calculated splash in free agency have given their fans a reason to believe. It began with the addition of Russell Wilson via free agency. The former Super Bowl winner with the Seattle Seahawks showed some signs of life last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, leading the Black and Yellow to the postseason once again.

However, it's the draft in which the Big Apple outfit has truly shone. The selection of linebacker Abdul Carter has fans excited. The 21-year-old is a tackling machine with an instinct for being in the right place at the right time, and his speed and sideline-to-sideline range make him the ideal centerpiece for a defense looking to cause disruption.

On the other side of the ball, the Giants took a chance on quarterback Jaxson Dart, viewing him as a potential long-term answer under center. The rookie brings charisma, a quicker release than fellow Ole Miss alumnus Eli Manning during his prime, and a flair for the dramatic. Pairing him with a veteran like Wilson sets up an ideal mentorship dynamic that could bear fruit in the coming years.

Together, Carter, Dart, and Wilson offer a stronger foundation than the Giants have had in years. Head coach Brian Daboll, a known quarterback guru, might just have the pieces to mold a competitive squad in an NFC East that’s as unpredictable as it is entertaining.
