Betting Odds: Dolphins (+9.5) VS Colts (-9.5) – O/U 50.5

Pick: Dolphins (W/Points) (+9.5)

The NFL action is starting to heat up as the 2018 NFL season rolls into Week 12 of the NFL Schedule. With three action packed contests on Thanksgiving Day, the options are thin for sports bettors to take advantage of. One contest to focus on features the Miami Dolphins (5-5) traveling to Indianapolis to take on the Colts (5-5). For both of these teams, Sunday’s contest has a potential impact on their playoff hopes.

As the playoff action is starting to heat up, the Dolphins and Colts currently sit tied with five other teams with a 5-5 record. Despite the same record based on current tie breaking formulas, the Dolphins sit 8th overall while the Colts sit just behind them at 9th overall. Currently the Baltimore Ravens hold the final wild card position at 5-5. A win on Sunday will give that team a slight advantage over the other and a potential tie breaker win later in the season.

For these two teams the 2018 NFL schedule has completely gone in opposite directions. The Dolphins started red hot winning three straight to open up the season before losing five of their next seven contests. Meanwhile Andrew Luck’s playmaking abilities has the Colts on a four game winning streak after losing four of their first five contests.

Here are the keys to the game for both the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colt matchup on Sunday November 25th, 2018 at Lucas Oil Field.

NFL Keys to the Game

Miami Dolphins – Force the Colts to run the ball

The Dolphins enter this contest in need a win to stay in the playoff hunt in the AFC. In order for them to accomplish this on Sunday they will need to shut down Andrew Luck and the Colts passing attack. Over the Colts last four contests Luck has thrown for 977 yards with 13 touchdown passes to just one interception while completing over 71 percent of his passes in each contest. Meanwhile the Colts enter this contest averaging the 14th most rushing yards per contest.

Indianapolis Colts – Take Shots Down Field

When you look at this matchup, the Colts have the big advantage on the offensive side of the ball while averaging just below 30 points a contest. From the opening whistle, the Colts offense needs to continue to take shots down the field for big play opportunities with T.Y. Hilton. If the Colts can take advantage of the Dolphins secondary, the Dolphins do not have the offensive firepower to play comeback.

NFL Betting Trends

Miami Dolphins – After the hot start, the Dolphins have cooled off as of late winning just two of their last seven overall contest. Those struggles have shown up as the team has covered the spread in just five of their first ten contests including just one of their first five road contests. Along with those struggles the Dolphins have covered the spread in just one of their last seven contests in November and just three of their last 11 contests following a loss.

Indianapolis Colts – Despite the slow start the Colts have still managed to post a 6-4 mark against the spread this season while covering in three of their first five at Lucas Oil Field.  Along with the recent success in the standings, the Colts are 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four AFC matchups. The Colts have also dominated in November over the past few years covering the spread in 15 of their last 21 November contests.

Head 2 Head – This contest favors the Dolphins based on the betting trends over the past meetings. Entering Sunday the Dolphins have posted a 7-1 mark against the spread in Indianapolis. Along with those trends, the road team has covered the spread in six of the last seven overall meetings.

What’s next for these two teams?

Miami Dolphins – The Dolphins will head back to Miami to take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday December 2nd, 2018 at 1pm ET.

Indianapolis Colts – The Colts will head on the road for Week 13 of the NFL schedule as they travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars on Sunday December 2nd @ 1pm ET.
