The NFL’s top performing offense will head to Baltimore to take on the league’s top defense on Sunday as the Baltimore Ravens welcome the New Orleans Saints to town. The Saints who rank 3rd in the NFL in yards per game (424 ypg), 3rd in passing yards per game (320.8 ypg) and 1st in points per game (36 ppg) face a Ravens defense that has yet to yield a second half touchdown through their first six games of the 2018 NFL season.
As the Saints have dominated on the offensive side of the ball, the Ravens have performed near the top half of teams in nearly every offensive category but have had most of their success on the defensive side of the ball. The Ravens are the only team in the NFL yielding less than 300 yards per game (270.8 ypg) while ranking 2nd in passing yards per game (188 ypg), 3rd in rushing yards per game (82.8 ypg) and 1st in points allowed per game. The team is also one of two teams in the NFL that have allowed less than 100 points to start the season (77 total, 12.8 ppg). The only other team is the Chicago Bears who have played just five games (96 total, 19.2 ppg).
Now these two teams will clash on Sunday October 21st, 2018 at M&T Bank Stadium in a matchup both teams would like to add to their win column. Espically for the Saints and future Hall Of Fame quarterback Drew Brees who has yet to defeat the Ravens (0-4) in his brilliant career. The only team in the NFL, Brees has yet to post a win against over his NFL career. Will the Ravens defense slow down Brees or will he find a way to get the best of them?
Here are the keys to the game for both the New Orleans Saints VS Baltimore Ravens on Sunday October 21st, 2018.
Keys to the Game
New Orleans Saints – Play Their Game Plan
The Saints enter the NFL Schedule Week 7 matchup sitting at 4-1 on the year and atop of the NFC South division. As they get set to take on the Ravens, the Saints need to stay the course of their success this season while continuing to play their game plan. On offense, Sean Payton will need to continue to let Brees throw the ball while feeding the ball to both Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram. On the defensive side of the ball, continue to focus on shutting down the run (1st in the NFL in rushing yards allowed) forcing Joe Flacco to throw the ball early and often.
Baltimore Ravens – Move the Chains
This Ravens team has dominated throughout most of the 2018 NFL schedule. That said on Sunday the Ravens will need their offense to move the chain much like the team was able to do against the Tennessee Titans in Week 6. If the Ravens can move the first down chains on each drive while finishing drives with touchdowns. If the Ravens can move the chains and win the time of possession it limits the opportunities Brees and the Saints offense has to make plays.
NFL Betting Trends
New Orleans Saints – The Saints have rolled to a 4-1 record to start the season while posting a 3-2 record against the spread for sports handicappers. That success includes the Saints winning both of their road contests while covering the spread in each contest. Along with the success early the Saints have dominated in Week 7 over their past six seasons covering the spread in all six contests. The team has also been brilliant under Payton following a bye week covering the spread in nine of their last 10 games following the bye.
Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens continue to dominate at M&T Bank Satdium and that success has shown up this season with the team covering the spread in both contests while winning both contests. Overall the Ravens have posted a 4-2 record and the same mark for sports handicappers against the spread. Along with winning at home the Ravens have had success against teams with a winning record covering the spread in six of their last eight contests. Despite the success the Ravens have struggled in Week 7 over the years failing to cover the spread in six of their last 8 contests.
Head 2 Head – The Saints have struggled over the past four meetings with Drew Brees under center. Over that stretch the Ravens have a 4-0 record while winning both on the road as well as at home where the team has dominated over the years. The same results have shown up in the betting trends as the Saints have covered the spread in just one of their last six contests against the Ravens.
What’s next for these two teams?
New Orleans Saints – The Saints will head to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in a key matchup in the NFC. ,
Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens will make the trip south to the Carolinas to take on the Carolina Panthers.
