The NBA Western Conference continues to take shape on Wednesday January 30th, 2019 with a possible playoff matchup between the Utah Jazz and the Portland Trailblazers. Currently the Trail Blazers sit in the fourth spot in the Western Conference playoff picture while the Jazz sit in the seventh spot. Only two games separate the two teams in the standings while the Jazz sit with two other teams with 29 wins.
When you look at these two teams the teams are built different as the Trail Blazers are built around an offense that can score whereas the Jazz are built around defense. Currently the Jazz rank 3rd in the NBA in fewest points allowed per game while holding their opponents to the sixth fewest amount of shots per contest. The Trail Blazers meanwhile rank 9th in the NBA in points per game.
Here are the keys to the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers NBA matchup on January 29th, 2019 at the Staples Center.
NBA Keys to Game
Utah Jazz – Limit the Turnovers
All the Jazz has done of late is win, winning 15 of their last 20 overall contests including 10 of their last 12 overall. In the team’s last two losses they managed to turn over the ball 15 times each game. Meanwhile in their loss to the Milwaukee Bucks the Bucks turned the ball over five fewer times and in their loss to the Trail Blazers they turned the ball over seven fewer times.
Portland Trail Blazers – Supporting Cast Needs to Step Up
The Trail Blazers have been red hot winners of seven of their past ten contests. While the success has looked great in two of those three losses, Damian Lillard could not get enough support out his surrounding options. In those two losses only Lillard managed to top the 20 point mark.
NBA Betting Trends
Utah Jazz – Heading into their Wednesday Night Western Conference show down the Jazz have won nine of their last ten overall contests. Despite that success over that stretch the Jazz have covered the spread for sports handicappers in just five of the ten contests. Along with that the Jazz have a 25-24 mark against the spread this season and a 13-12 mark on the road. The Jazz have also struggled against teams with a winning percentage above the .600 mark at home covering the spread in just one of their last five matchups. On a positive note the Jazz have covered the spread in four of their last five road matchups and in five of their last seven against teams in the Western Conference.
Portland Trail Blazers – The Trail Blazers have been as good as nearly any team in the NBA of late winning seven of ten while posting an 8-2 record against the spread for sports handicappers. That success has pushed their record to 28-23 against the spread this season and 18-10 at home. The success doesn’t stop there as the team has covered the spread in eight straight contests following at least three days off and in four of their last five against teams with a winning record.
Head 2 Head – This will be the fourth meeting between these two teams this season with the Jazz winning two of these meetings including their first meeting of the season at the Moda Center 120-90. The trends point to the Trail Blazers in this matchup as the home team has covered the spread in 10 of their last 14 overall meetings. Along with that the Jazz has covered the spread in just two of their last seven matchups at the Moda Center.
