As fans get excited to make their Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs NFL spread pick on Thursday, the early consensus leans towards a Chiefs win as they look to repeat. After opening as high as an 11 point favorite, the point spread has lowered on many of the top sportsbook to the Chiefs being a 9.5 point favorite.

In this match NFL fan favorite matchup, two of the games top young quarterbacks will square off in another prime time matchup. For Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes the future looks bright for the two 2017 NFL draft picks. Back in their first meeting on October 13th, 2019 during the regular season Watson led his Texans to a 31-24 win. In that contest Watson threw for 280 yards to go with one passing touchdown and two interceptions but managed to find the end zone rushing two times.

In their second meeting during the second round of the 2019 NFL playoffs, despite a strong performance by Watson the Chiefs offense led by five touchdowns and 321 yards passing by Mahomes was too much as the Chiefs picked up the 51-31 win. In all Watson has a 1-2 record against the Chiefs all-time passing for 929 yards to go with eight touchdowns to just two interceptions while adding two rushing touchdowns. Here is a NFL spread pick, preview and prediction for the Houston Texas vs. Kansas Chiefs contest on Thursday September 10th, 2020:

Offense Preview

Houston Texans Offense – The Texans offense will still have their main weapon in quarterback Deshaun Watson under center but will look a little different after a very busy NFL offseason. The team elected to trade All-Pro wide receiver this off-season while acquiring former Pro Bowl running back David Johnson.  In addition to adding Johnson, the team also added wide receivers Brandin Cooks and Randall Cobb to the list of weapons for Watson. Along with those three key additions, the Texans offense also features the likes of Kenny Stills, Will Fuller and Duke Johnson. One thing is for certain while the team will miss Hopkins as a whole, the overall offense will be explosive with Watson under center.

Kansas City Chiefs Offense – As you look to the Chiefs offense it is powered and led by one of the most explosive weapons in all of football Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes who missed time with a leg injury last season, showcased his MVP abilities down the stretch while leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl championship. Along with Mahomes the Chiefs offense features two of the best receiving options in all of football with Tyreek Hill at wide receiver and Travis Kelce at tight end. Hill and Kelce combined for 225 catches for 2,089 yards and 12 touchdowns during the 2019 NFL season. Other Chiefs offensive weapons include Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman at receiver and Darrel Williams at running back. The team also added talented rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire during the 2020 NFL draft to take over the rushing load.

Matchup Advantage – Kansas City Chiefs

Defense Preview

Houston Texans Defense – The Texans defense success in 2020 will revolve around J.J. Watt and his ability to stay on the field. In 2018 with Watt on the field the defense allowed 11 fewer points in one fewer game, recorded more sacks per game forced more punts and allowed fewer first downs. While Watt is key to the Texans defense the Texans linebackers including Whitney Mercilus and Benardrick McKinney may be the strongest with their entire starting group expected to be starters in 2020. On the back side the teams secondary improved after adding Bradley Roby, Vernon Hargreaves and Lonnie Johnson. That said it can only go up for a Texans defense that ranked 28th overall in total defense in 2020.

Kansas City Chiefs Defense – While the Chiefs offense will get most of the attention after winning the Super Bowl entering the season, the Chiefs defense has a few solid playmakers to make it difficult for opponents to keep up with their high powered offense. At the front of the group is Chris Jones who is one of the top interior defensive lineman in all of football. In addition to Jones up front the Chiefs have the talented and multi adaptable Tyrann Mathieu to slow down opposing slot receivers. Along with Matheiu the Chiefs secondary features a Charvarius Ward at corner back. However the team will be with Bashaud Breeland leaving a hole to fill over the first four games of the season.

CentSports Free NFL Spread Pick – Houston Texans

CentSports Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs NFL prediction: This matchup as far as a NFL spread pick will come down to the overall point spread at the time you make the pick. After starting on some sportsbooks as an 11 point favorite the total has reduced to as low as eight points on some sites. If the spread lowers to eight or even seven because of the money coming in, the Chiefs would be a great pick. That said, the nearly double digit spread makes it difficult to look past the Texans in this matchup. The team has a talented group of wide receivers and the addition of Johnson to their back field should give Watson the weapons to keep up with the Chiefs offense. While the Chiefs win this game outright, the Texans will make it a game late to cover the spread.
